Site News & Information / Re: Forum software update
« on: April 15, 2019, 03:24:04 PM »
If you're referring to the banner ads which appear in this forum, then they're there as a small compensation to me for keeping the site running. If they are objectionable, then use an ad blocker. The ads have always been present on the forum, however as it was upgraded to a new version, I had to use different plugin for placing them and they may therefore be a little different.

On a side note, the forum is not meant as a personal blog, or even a place where you should be soliciting donations or advertising, per the http://nostradamus.org/f/agreement.txt that new registrants agree to. There are numerous blog / feed like sites where you can control the layout and content. You could also pay a hosting company run and control every aspect of the experience, including the placement of ads.

Site News & Information / Forum software update
« on: April 14, 2019, 03:40:19 AM »
The forum was down for 12 hours while the software was updated from 1.x to 2.x. It was a bit bumpy getting it to migrate and there are some loose ends to tie up but hopefully it should be up and running now.

Site News & Information / A new look and feel for the site
« on: December 31, 2015, 02:54:54 PM »
2016 is nearly here so the site has been updated with

- a new look and feel which is mobile friendly. When you use it on a tablet or phone it should nicely scale to fit. Unfortunately this doesn't include the forum.
- a cookie policy and a popup that appears on first use to tell you about it
- a new quatrain browser
- a lot of changes under the hood

It should result in a more modern looking, responsive and readable site. There might be some minor tweaks in the weeks ahead but nothing too disruptive.

Site News & Information / Apologies for downtime

My hosting provider decided to move the database server from one place to another switching from IP addresses to hostnames in the process and it took me a while to figure out what to do. If you can read this, we're up and running again.

Current Events / Happy end of the world!
« on: December 21, 2012, 01:27:59 AM »
Or not as it's most likely to be:

http://www.nostradamus.org/2012.php

The Daily Telegraph has a live blog for some reason:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/maya/9758201/Mayan-apocolypse-the-end-of-the-world-live.html

Do not be surprised if reports surface in the coming days of people who took it a little too seriously. If they're lucky they suffered a little embarrassment from having to explain prophecies which didn't come true. The not so lucky ones, members of doomsday cults, the mentally disturbed etc. might really have experienced the end of the world at least from their perspective

Current Events / December 21 2012
« on: November 27, 2012, 04:16:39 PM »
I threw a little page together to describe the Mayan calendar and the rollover that will happen on 21 December 2012. It seems to be coming up with increasing frequency so it's bound to be a popular piece of news filler as the time approaches.

Niburu / Planet X has been supposed to be passing / crashing into the Earth for decades now. Supporters have previously explained its non appearance by suggesting it passed spiritually (whatever that means), or the aliens who are in control of it thought we were not ready. I expect this year will prove no different for excuses when the day comes and goes without any planet X.

Current Events / Mayans never predicted world to end in 2012: experts
« on: December 03, 2011, 04:05:42 AM »
If you are worried the world will end next year based on the Mayan calendar, relax: the end of time is still far off. So say Mayan experts who want to dispel any belief that the ancient Mayans predicted a world apocalypse next year.

General Discussion / Mabus arrested
« on: August 18, 2011, 10:34:43 AM »
Mabus was apprehended in Montreal in the last few days:

Okay, so it's not THE Mabus. Instead it's Dave Mabus aka Dennis Markuze, a prolific and certifiable spammer who has spent the last 15 years harassing groups and individuals. In recent years his harassment spun over into death threats. Even the nostradamus.org forum was "blessed" with some his crazy until he was permabanned. One of his posts is preserved in the Trashcan sans working links.

Hopefully for his sake he'll receive the treatment that he so clearly needs.

It's more frequent than even that. JREF lists 44 of them and I bet they're missing out a pile which never attracted the publicity

Oh dear that didn't go too well. It would be funny if it weren't for the lives ruined in the wake of one man's delusions.

Current Events / Happy rapture day!
« on: May 20, 2011, 12:07:15 PM »
Tomorrow is predicted to be the rapture according to Harold Camping. Blithering old fool or prophet? We'll see when Sunday rolls around. Or doesn't.

Site News & Information / Registering? Read here
« on: February 10, 2011, 12:23:13 PM »
If you are registering for this forum read on:

1. Use the registration page to
   a) Enter a user name, password. Some user names may be blocked, typically ones which may be offensive, official sounding etc.
   b) Enter the recaptcha words
   c) Read and agree to the forum rules
2. Wait
3. You will receive an activation email when I have had a chance to review your registration

Step 3 can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to a few months. I apologize for the delay. For every genuine registrant I get about 100 drive-by spammers trying to register and it takes time to filter them out. Yes I use tools to do it. I apologise for any delay in advance.
